First ever TV series about journalists to be broadcast
-Journalists to contribute rural economic development-
A thirteen part-TV series for rural businesses, herders and farmers is soon
to be broadcast. The series, "I win" aims to deliver messages to audiences
about business risk taking, micro financing, market information systems,
pastureland management, local productions, local governance issues and so
on, through a journalist who is working for a magazine office. The TV drama
is been produced by Pact Mongolia and Mercy Corps Mongolia, funded by USAID.
It's the third TV drama produced by Pact Mongolia within the Gobi Initiative
project and there were two other TV dramas for rural audiences have been
successfully produced, "Final Destination-1" and "Final Destination-2".

"Mercy Corps, Pact and USAID are proud to present the "I win" television
series. Improving access to information is a core part of our rural
development work and I am confident that this series contributes a great
deal to that goal. "I win" will deliver information and advice on
agricultural production and running small businesses in a way that we hope
viewers will find both useful and entertaining" said Dominic Graham, the
country represantative for Mercy Corps Mongolia.
"The 'I win' series reflects life in two parallel story lines. Firstly, it
shows rural people earning a livelihood and looking for ways to improve and
expand their businesses. Secondly, it tells the story of an NGO that is
running an independent magazine that supports rural businesses. Mongolia
has numerous printed publications some of which are politically funded or
supported by schemes and scams such as competitions that promise but often
fail to deliver. Known as the 'Yellow Press' these publications come and go.
Running a sustained, ethical, truthful publication that is for the public
good can be tough in the Mongolian market. Rural Business News works hard on
information flow to rural people. It links rural and city based businesses
for national economic development" said Tracey Naughton, Pact Mongolia's
country director.
"I win" is the last in a decade of media produced by Pact Mongolia. Pact's
media work is based on a theory of behavior change. This theory holds that
media, when carefully planned and produced, can add to viewer's knowledge,
change attitudes and lead to different behavior. This kind of media assists
people to adapt to new times and new opportunities by bringing educational,
entertaining media to Mongolian audiences. Over the last decade Pact
Mongolia has worked with emerging media talent who are now working to
produce quality media programs in their own production houses. Pact is
well-known in Mongolian media market not only on rural economic development,
but as been the producer for the "Under the same sun", a TV series against
HIV/AIDS.
Follow the journey of the "I win" series journalists of Rural Business News
magazine and rural business people in this 13 part series to be aired from
February 2, 2009 on TV9 channel.
